Plum Victoria

The Plum Victoria is the nation's favourite plum tree — and for very good reason. A true British heritage variety that has been grown in gardens for over 150 years, Victoria is celebrated for its generous crops of beautiful red-blushed plums with sweet, golden flesh. Whether eaten straight from the tree, made into jam, or baked into a classic crumble, there's nothing quite like a Victoria plum at its peak.

About the Fruit

Victoria plums are medium to large in size with a gorgeous red and yellow skin and wonderfully sweet, juicy golden flesh with a hint of sharpness. They ripen from late August into September and are incredibly versatile — superb for fresh eating, preserving, baking, bottling and freezing.

Growing Information

  • Self-fertile — produces excellent crops without a pollinator, making it ideal for smaller gardens
  • Exceptionally heavy cropping — one of the most productive plum varieties available
  • Hardy and disease-resistant — reliable and easy to grow in most UK gardens
  • Thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained, fertile soil
  • Suitable for growing as a bush, half-standard or fan-trained against a wall
  • Harvest from late August to September when fruit is fully coloured and yields to gentle pressure
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit holder

Planting Tips

Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Avoid frost pockets as blossom can be damaged by late frosts. Water regularly during the first growing season and mulch around the base to retain moisture. Prune in summer (not winter) to reduce the risk of silver leaf disease, and thin heavy crops in June to improve fruit size and prevent branch breakage.
